Welcome to our coverage of the march for peace held in New York City on April 29th and organized by United for Peace and Justice. For more information on this event, visit the official website, www.April29.org Please enjoy. Send any questions or feedback to ACrowdedFire@Yahoo.com ReadRead my article about covering the protest, from WESU magazine
Showing off my official press badge, which said my name and “A Crowded Fire (WESU)” under the word “Press.” This allowed me to go to the press conference and stand in between the bitter looking guy from the Village Voice and a lovely chica from Univision. SPEECHES FROM THE PRESS CONFERENCE
Al Sharpton, Cindy Sheehan, and Jesse Jackson marching. These three, plus many others, spoke at the press conference in the morning. There are no pictures of this, though, as our ACF photographer, Lea Jacobs, had wandered off at the time, possibly with an Iraq Veteran against the War. That’s why I’m the one with the official press badge.
Hear Vinnie Burroughs's (Granny Peace Brigade and Granny Jailbird) speech. The police arrested these woman at a protest, but only after the Grannies took out two state troopers and destroyed three city blocks.
Hear Susan Sarandon's speech as she introduces Cindy Sheehan Hear Roger Toussaint's (Pres. of Transport Workers Union) speech Hear Geoffrey Millar's (Iraq Veterans Against the War) speech Hear Michael McPhearson's (Exec. Dir. of Veterans for Peace) speech Hear Leslie Kagan's (Pres. of United for Peace and Justice) speech Hear Faiza Al-Araji's (peace and women's rights advocate from Iraq) speech Hear Nancy Lessin's (Co-founder of Military Families Speak Out) speech Hear Jennifer Pae's (U.S. Student's Association) speech Hear Kelly Williams from the People's Hurricane Relief Fund Hear Nancy Wohlforth's (US Labor Against War) speech Hear Osagyefo Sekou's (Clergy and Laity Concenred About Iraq) speech
INTERVIEWS FROM THE MARCH AND FESTIVAL (interviews with people who are not pictured appear at the bottom of the page)
Hear my interview with Cindy Sheehan. OK, I was a little nervous; maybe it’s not the best interview. But listen to her say “Gosh, it’s an honor to meet you.” Glad she’s heard of me.
Hear my interview with Danny Schechter the News Dissector from MediaChannel.org. Danny writes a lot of books, makes a lot of movies, and curses a lot from his office. He is my boss this summer, though this interview was the first time I actually met him.
Hear my interview with Demond Mullins of Iraq Veterans Against the War. If someone told me he was gunna look all serious I wouldn’t have stood there with a goofy grin. Thanks a lot for the heads up, ACF photographer…
Hear the Iraq Veterans Against the War protesting military style.
Hear my interview with Geoffrey Blank. Blank is going on trial for using a megaphone while rockin the polemics in Union Square Park, something he does quite often. He’s also a lifeguard! And he doesn’t tolerate horse play when it comes to the First Amendment.
Hear my interview with Alex from Operation2012. Alex started up the website Operation 2012 Check him out.
Hear my interview with Joel Kupferman from the Mass Defense Committee. Notice how he doesn’t really wait for me to ask questions, he just answers what he knows I’m going to ask. Efficient predictability is ACF's motto.
Hear my interview with Cher Nothing from Billionaires for Bush.
Hear my interview with one of these guys. “Hello? Oh, yes, hi, how are you? No, I can’t really talk now, seeing how I’m in the middle of the revolution...I’ll text you when we’re done.”
Hear my interview with Max. Max, if you’re reading this – I’m all for disarmament, but not if it’s going to involve potty-mouth signs.
Hear this folk singer rock it. Then, Hear Aaron’s commentary as the police take away her sound system.
Hear the Grannies chanting. These woman have an equal amount of love for Che and Matlock.
I’m actually not sure if this was an official Raging Granny or just a Granny who happened to be raging. In either case, I got her number.
